THE CITY REAWAKENS

After a three week “Working Vacation” in second city New Orleans, Johnny is back in Gotham and ready for the new season. In between parades and his mixes for Milan Fashion Week, Johnny had the opportunity to help redesign his website JOHNNYDYNELL.COM from top to bottom with longtime collaborator BRIAN KRESS. Besides everything you might expect, they’ve included a long history and some fab archival photos (like the STEVEN MEISEL gem below). Look for these in the HISTORY and PHOTOS/HISTORY subsections when you visit, and enjoy the site’s mix of DJ history and future fun.

As the city awakens, there are busy weeks ahead: This weekend Johnny joins his JACKIE FACTORY collaborators for JACK YOUR BUSTLE Friday 2/16 in the Panther Room @ OUTPUT. We would LOVE to see some of Johnny’s club family/dancefloor faithful at this one and even have some comps if you write early enough (scroll down). On Sunday 2/18 he’s back in the East Village for NARDI GRAS, impresario DANIEL NARDICIO’s annual DWORLD “beads and underwear” bash. Monday its off to Milan for another exciting MAX MARA runway show, then on to West Hollywood the following weekend for the EJAF Academy Awards party 3/4. And the beat goes on..

THE JACKIE FACTORY PRESENTS
JACK YOUR BUSTLE

THE PANTHER ROOM @ OUTPUT
Friday, February 16

Besides their annuals and collaborations, NYC performance collective THE JACKIE FACTORY also creates a few one-off editions with the JACKIE 60 flavor and family. With DJ/maestro JOHNNY DYNELL, the Factory debut at OUTPUT in February will be one of these special nights and their first show of 2018. JACK YOUR BUSTLE harkens back to the clever JACKIE 60 themes that exploded Dynell, JACKIE 60 and its creative collective to Nineties notoriety. In this night created especially for Output’s PANTHER ROOM, Dynell and the Jackie Factory will explore 1990s House Music and culture through the horn-rimmed spectacles of the 1890s.

Expect the signature Dynell early Nineties Jackie 60 soundtrack thats been packing CLUB CUMMING on First Fridays for FIRED UP! (Next edition is 3/10). He’ll be joined by club fixtures PAUL ALEXANDER, HEATHER LITTEER aka JESSICA RABBIT DOMINATION, the JACKIE MC’s and period costumed Method Go-Go performers. For a sample of the JACKIE 60 sound listen to Johnny’s “THAT JACKIE FEELING” podcast on his Soundcloud page.

Note: Johnny has a very limited number of comps to this event and would love to bestow them on you, his newsletter subscribers. THE 26TH ELTON JOHN AIDS FOUNDATION
ACADEMY AWARDS VIEWING PARTY

Sunday, March 4

SIR ELTON JOHN and DAVID FURNISH will host the ELTON JOHN AIDS FOUNDATION’s 26TH ANNUAL ACADEMY AWARDS VIEWING PARTY on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at West Hollywood Park in Los Angeles.

Sponsored by BVLGARI, the event will feature a sumptuous dinner designed by the Roca Brothers of the Michelin three-star restaurant EL CELLER DE CAN ROCA in Girona, Spain, the live telecast of the 90th Academy Awards, followed by a live auction conducted by Alexander Gilkes of Paddle8, a spectacular performance by the new breakout band GRETA VAN FLEET, a special appearance by illusionist DAVID JARRE, and dancing until dawn with DJ JOHNNY DYNELL.

The party, produced by the impeccable AAB PRODUCTIONS, is the most highly visible and successful fundraising event in Hollywood on Oscar night. Over the past quarter century, this annual event has raised more than $62 million, thanks to the generosity of EJAF’s supporters. These funds help the Foundation to make a real difference in the lives of people at risk for or living with HIV/AIDS in the United States, Canada, and Latin America. FIRED UP!

Johnny Dynell Spins the Gay Nineties
Friday, March 10

Johnny returns to hit East Village boite CLUB CUMMING for the latest edition of his 90s house homage FIRED UP! The previous editions have been dancey and joyous, and we hope you’ll join Johnny and his musical guest for this unique and popular monthly. Please note that due to the Oscars, March date has been moved back from its usual “First Friday” slot.

House Music was born in Chicago in the mid Eighties and brought to NY by WAREHOUSE DJ FRANKIE KNUCKLES to LARRY LEVAN’S DJ booth at the mythic PARADISE GARAGE. JOHNNY DYNELL, spinning Fridays and Saturdays at THE TUNNEL, helped introduce this new sound in 1986, and brought his own brand of it to the newborn Jackie 60 four years later. Now he returns to this signature Dynell early Nineties soundtrack for FIRED UP! For a sample of this sound listen to Johnny’s “THAT JACKIE FEELING” podcast on his Soundcloud page.
